What is the Committee on Special Education (CSE)?

The Committee on Special Education (CSE) plays a crucial role in by making recommendations about appropriate special education services and programs to ensure that every student with disabilities or unique learning needs receives the support necessary to succeed academically, physically, and socially. Comprised of educators, specialists, and parents, the CSE collaborates to develop individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's strengths and challenges. This committee conducts comprehensive evaluations to determine eligibility for special education services and works closely with families to understand their child's educational goals and aspirations. By fostering open communication and collaboration among all stakeholders, the CSE ensures that every decision made is in the best interest of the student, promoting their overall growth and achievement within our school community.

I Suspect My Child Has a Disability - What Do I Do?

If you suspect your child may have a disability, it is important to take proactive steps. The first step is to communicate your concerns with the child's principal, teacher, or school counselor. These professionals can provide insights and observations from an educational standpoint. Additionally, seeking guidance from a pediatrician or healthcare provider can help rule out any medical factors impacting the child's development. It's crucial for parents to gather information, ask questions, and collaborate with educators and specialists to advocate effectively for their child's educational and developmental needs. For more information, please contact Special Programs Office (607)565-8101.

Parents who are concerned about the development of their preschool age child (ages 3-5) may refer their child to Waverly Central School District Committee for Preschool Special Education (CPSE) to request an evaluation. Early intervention and support can make a significant difference in ensuring that children receive appropriate accommodations and services to thrive academically and socially. The CPSE determines the eligibility and authorization of special education services. Services that are offered include Special Education Itinerant Teacher (SEIT) Services, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy, and other services for special needs, in conjunction with district employees and county approved providers. Please contact Special Programs Office (607)565-8101 ex.1102 with any questions or concerns you might have with regards to Preschool Special Education.
