What: Understanding and Supporting the Mental Health of Autistic Youth Webinar
When: Thursday, April 16, 2026, at 6:00pm
Where: Virtual
Why: This webinar will provide information on recognizing and identifying mental health conditions (ex. anxiety, depression, OCD) that commonly occur among autistic youth. This training will also discuss evidence-based intervention for supporting mental health as well as neurodiversity-affirming strategies, resources, and supports.

Following this presentation participants will be able to:
1) Learn about mental health concerns including anxiety, depression, and OCD and how these conditions present in autism
2) Understand evidence-based approaches to treating mental health conditions
3) Be able to implement practical strategies and/or have knowledge to access resources to support mental health

Presenter Bio: Emma Wilkinson, Ph.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist at MindWell Psychology, LLP. She completed her graduate training at the University at Albany where she worked at the Center for Autism and Related Disabilities. Dr. Wilkinson completed her clinical internship at JFK Partners at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, where she was also a LEND (Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities) fellow. Dr. Wilkinson provides evidence-based therapy and assessment for children, teens, and young adults, with a focus on neurodivergent populations. She has expertise in supporting youth and families around anxiety disorders, depression and mood disorders, OCD, emotion regulation, executive functioning, and behavior difficulties.

The Sayre Chapter of UNICO sponsors a combined 4 year scholarship consisting of the Michael & Ann DeSisti Scholarship and the UNICO Foundation Scholarship.
Eligibility Requirements:
1. Students must:
a. Be a member of the senior class
b. Be eligible for graduation
c. Be able to show proof of acceptance at an accredited college or university
d. Enroll in the specified college/university in the summer or fall of the year
graduated from high school
e. Major in Special Education, Occupational or Physical Therapy, Nursing or a
related field and plan to enter into a career working with people with disabilities.
2 . Eligibility shall be based upon scholarship and financial need.
3. Any member of the immediate family of a UNICO member is not eligible.
Limit of Scholarships:
The Michael & Ann DeSisti Scholarship is a 1 year award paid in the student's freshman year. The UNICO Foundation Scholarship is an award paid in the remaining 3 years. The Scholarship is $8000 divided into 4/$2000 payouts. The award will be paid at the beginning of the 2nd semester each year, and will be made payable to the student and the Financial Aid Office of the college/university to which the student will matriculate.

Kathy M. England Nursing Scholarship - April 20th Deadline Approaching

Kathy graduated from Waverly High School in 1972 and then progressed to a successful over 40-year nursing career at the University of Rochester, Strong Memorial Hospital. Post WHS, she earned a Nursing Diploma from Arnot Ogden School of Nursing, then progressively, a Bachelor’s and then a Master’s degree from St. John Fisher University. She created this scholarship to support the career choice of a future nurse.

Eligibility Criteria: a student enrolling in an associate or baccalaureate program to pursue a registered nurse degree.

Scholarship Amount: $1000.

Norman J. O'Neil Memorial Scholarship - Cops4aCause - Deadline Extended to 4/24

Norm's career in public service as a NYS trooper spanned over 31 years serving the people of New York State, primarily in Broome and Tioga Counties. He served as a trooper and an investigator and was a member of several specialized units. His responsibilities were important to him and Norm could always be counted on to help. He had the strongest sense of dedication and commitment and leadership, distinguishing him as a trusted role model for all.

This scholarship award will ensure that the work ethic and characteristics of Norm and how he lived his life every day continues in some small way. The scholarship in the amount of $1000 presented through Cops4aCause is competitive. There is only one recipient each year from thirteen (13) schools within Broome County and one recipient from six (6) schools within Tioga County. Applications are submitted by graduating high school seniors. The scholarship is awarded to a student in recognition of their community service and who will be pursuing studies in law enforcement and related fields and who exemplifies the values and ideals that were the core of Norm's life.

(May 15 is an 11:30am Early Release day for students)

PROM is open to Waverly HS Juniors and Seniors.
Grade 10 students may only attend as the guest of a Junior or Senior. Grade 9 students can not attend.
Non district students and graduated guests, age 20 and under, require permission.

Tickets will be on sale when we return from April break.

The Non-District guest form (2 pages) is also attached, and needs to be returned to the main office and approved by administration before a ticket can be purchased. Copies can also be picked up in the main office.
April break is a great time to get these forms completed.
