Candor American Legion Auxiliary - Kate Whittemore Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is open to all Tioga County high school Seniors planning to further their education in agriculture, or construction trades. Students must be entering college or a post high school program in fall 2026 to qualify for this year's Kate Whittemore Scholarship. All branches of agriculture, construction or trades are acceptable.

The winner will be chosen by the Candor American Legion Auxiliary Unit 907. Winners will be awarded their scholarship at a ceremony held at the Candor American Legion in June 2026. If no student meets the criteria this scholarship will be given to a student most deserving.

Vietnam Moving Wall Scholarship 2026

This Scholarship is co-sponsored by The Vietnam Moving Wall Committee, VFW Post 8104, and American Legion Post 0492. The Scholarship recognizes an individual student from each of the three valley schools (Waverly, Sayre, and Athens) who meets the criteria which is listed in the attachment provided.

The Charles Truman Memorial Scholarship is for students who reside in Tioga County. Charles was a pillar within the community. He was a member of the Farm Bureau Board, and the Tioga County Fair Board at the time of his passing. His passion for youth in agriculture was inspiring. The Persevere Like A Wolverine Foundation Scholarship

The scholarship committee is interested in gaining more insight into you as a person: In essay format, please describe an experience that required you to demonstrate leadership. Describe what the situation was (including the challenges you faced), what actions you took / led (including how you influenced / mobilized others to support the effort), and what the end result was (including any secondary outcomes / results)

Basis for the Award: The award is based on an individual continuing on a path of personal growth. One individual student will be considered.

Eligibility Requirements: Applicants must be a graduating senior from Waverly High School. The award is contingent upon acceptance to a duly accredited institution of higher education or trade school.

Deadline for Application: May 15, 2026.

Career Fair 2026
High School Information Update:
Please be reminded of the daily policies and procedures that we have in the building.

Distraction Free Learning Environment- Students must use their assigned Yondr pouch during the school day, or turn their device over to the office. This is a regulation enacted by NYS, and the district policy letter that was distributed can be accessed through the documents tab on the app/website.

No Bags/Backpacks- For safety reasons, students must be using their assigned locker or leaving their belongings with a trusted adult during the school day. Only those students with approved medical documentation are allowed to carry a bag/backpack during the school day.

Summer Programming- Driver's Education
Waverly will be a site for GST BOCES Summer school for Driver's Education.
More specific details will be forthcoming after initial signups are complete.

We will be holding signups out of the High School Main Office on Wednesday, April 15th, starting at 7:45am.
Students should sign up with Mrs. Santalucia.
Students must be 16 years of age prior to July 1, 2026 to sign up on April 15th.
We only have 40 seats in the course, and it will be on a first come, first serve basis.

We will also keep a "waitlist" for summer slots, and if there are available seats, then students who turn 16 prior to the first day of the course will be considered after June 1. As waitlist students are added to the course, parents will be notified.

NOTE: Waverly HS will be offering Driver's Education during the school day next year as well. If a student wants to enroll in a driver's education course for the 26-27 school year, they should reach out to the guidance office.

Valley Lodge #153 Essay Contest - Scholarship Due Date is May 9th, 2026.

The Masonic Essay Contest is open to seniors from Waverly, Sayre, and Athens High Schools.

Essay Topic:
Charity, community service, and volunteering are core values of Freemasonry. Share your personal experiences with any of these activities and explain why making a positive impact in your community or in people’s lives is meaningful to both you and those you help.

Please carefully review the following guidelines before submitting your essay:
*Submission: Email your completed essay to essay@cstmasons.org with the subject line "Masonic Essay Contest 2025."
*Word Count: Your essay must be between 500 and 1,000 words. Essays that do not meet this requirement will not be accepted. One Submission Per Applicant: Each participant may submit only one essay.

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Conference 2026 - UPDATED INFORMATION AND DUE DATE

Attention Juniors -

With Spring approaching, now is the time to look for Summer opportunities. The RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) Conference is a great place to start.

The RYLA Conference is a forum that provides exceptional students moving from their Junior to Senior year with an opportunity to exchange ideas, opinions and beliefs with other students in a relaxed, retreat-style setting. Students will have the opportunity to meet other area students, stay on a college campus setting, learn leadership skills and build friendships. Area high school teachers act as guest speakers and have students participate in various workshops to build confidence and skills for students to use as they progress from high school to their post-graduation goals. *The conference this year runs from Sunday June 28th, 2026 to Wednesday, July 1st, 2026 at the SUNY Oneonta Campus in Oneonta, NY.

All fees for students are paid by the local Rotary Club.

Interested students will need to fill out an application and selected applicants will attend an after-school interview with the selection committee. The date for this is TBD.

Leprino Scholarship

The Leprino Foods Waverly plant is pleased to offer their annual $1,000 Scholarship to one graduating Senior at each of the following schools: Waverly High School, Sayre High School & Athens High School.

Students must be entering College or a Trade School for the Fall 2026 term, carrying a minimum 3.40 GPA, and pursuing a degree or certification in: Dairy Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Computer Science, Engineering or Maintenance areas.

Students must submit a completed application, copy of acceptance letter and copy of their High School transcript.

Leprino Foods Scholarship

Kathy M. England Nursing Scholarship

Kathy graduated from Waverly High School in 1972 and then progressed to a successful over 40-year nursing career at the University of Rochester, Strong Memorial Hospital. Post WHS, she earned a Nursing Diploma from Arnot Ogden School of Nursing, then progressively, a Bachelor’s and then a Master’s degree from St. John Fisher University. She created this scholarship to support the career choice of a future nurse.

Eligibility Criteria: a student enrolling in an associate or baccalaureate program to pursue a registered nurse degree.

Scholarship Amount: $1000.

Application:
• Submit the following to their guidance counselor by April 20th, 2026:
o A copy of high school transcript
o A copy of acceptance letter to an accredited nursing program
o Two letters of recommendation from teachers or counselors
o Write an essay (300 words) on why you want to become a nurse.
o Provide a list of school-based activities (including leadership positions, clubs, athletics) as well as community volunteer activities, awards, honors, or other factors that indicate your potential to excel as a nurse.

Community Foundation - Twin Tiers
Howard "Bud" Tompkins Scholarship - May 1st Deadline

Howard Tompkins, known to friends and family as Bud, moved to Waverly at the age of 9. He lived with his family on Circle Drive and graduated from Waverly High School in 1967. He had a childhood love of baseball, playing all thru Babe Ruth and high school ball. It wasn’t until college where he discovered his love of science, ultimately completing an undergraduate degree in Biology and a Master’s of Public Health. He dedicated his professional career to environmental protection and public service.

This scholarship is designated for an athlete (male/female) interested in pursuing a career in the sciences, as a tribute to Bud Tompkins’ legacy.

Paul Quinn Girolamo Memorial Scholarship

The Paul Quinn Girolamo Memorial has been established to fund a scholarship to be awarded annually to a graduating Waverly High School Senior planning to pursue higher education postgraduation.

Basis for the Award: The award is based on character, spirit & leadership qualities in the school and in the community. Good academic standing and Athletic participation are also required. Two recipients will be selected.

Eligibility Requirements: Applicants must be a graduating senior from Waverly High School. The award is contingent upon acceptance to at a duly accredited institution of higher education.

Paul Quinn Girolamo Memorial Scholarship - 2026

Rhoda M. Sutryk Memorial Scholarship

This *$3,000 annual scholarship was set up in loving memory of Rhoda M. Sutryk, a talented individual who served her community well and poured her soul into the lives of young and old alike. Rhoda’s most devoted love was her family, where she mothered eleven wonderful children. Family values, the love for music, and strength of character were important to her. Along with her role as mother, Rhoda was a beloved piano teacher, choir director, music teacher, and more. She gave her talent, energy, and time in her community through various organizations, including Waverly High School and Elementary choirs, Waverly Band, Waverly Summer Music Theater, Waverly sports programs, Waverly art classes, nursing homes, churches, and any and all activities her children were involved in. Throughout her whole life, she repetitively demonstrated kindness and goodness serving those in and around the valley communities.

*The Sutryk family reserves the right to give one $3,000 scholarship or two $1,500 scholarships.

This award is given to a student in the Waverly Central School District who demonstrates any of Rhoda’s most treasured values.

Eligibility Criteria:
- Waverly graduating senior
- Accepted into a college or other advanced program is preferred
- Statement (250-500 words, double-spaced) on any or all of the following topics:
1. Today, family takes on many different appearances and dynamics. Explain the importance of family values and what does family mean to you? How has family helped mold you into who you are today?
2. What are you most admirable character traits and how do these traits help you through everyday life?
3. What gifts have I given through music, and how I will continue my love for music throughout my future years. - Must show outstanding character of outward goodness and kindness towards others.

Harry J. Hoover Memorial Scholarship

Norman J. O'Neil Memorial Scholarship - Cops4aCause - Final Reminder - 4/2 Due Date

Ncrm's career in public service as a NYS trooper spanned over 31 years serving the people of New York State, primarily in Broome and Tioga Counties. He served as a trooper and an investigator and was a member of several specialized units. His responsibilities were important to him and Norm could always be counted on to help. He had the strongest sense of dedication and commitment and leadership, distinguishing him as a trusted role model for all.

This scholarship award will ensure that the work ethic and characteristics of Norm and how he lived his life every day continues in some small way. The scholarship in the amount of $1000 presented through Cops4aCause is competitive. There is only one recipient each year from thirteen (13) schools within Broome County and one recipient from six (6) schools within Tioga County. Applications are submitted by graduating high school seniors. The scholarship is awarded to a student in recognition of their community service and who will be pursuing studies in law enforcement and related fields and who exemplifies the values and ideals that were the core of Norm's life.
