Students can experience Keuka College at one of the upcoming Fall Open Houses.
Students will meet current students, connect with professors, and discover campus resources. They’ll also explore the signature Field Period® program, which provides hands-on experiences through internships, research, volunteering, and other opportunities starting in their first year. Plus, there will be an application lab that allows students to sit down with an admissions counselor and complete their application.

Students Could Earn a $2,000 Grant for Visiting Keuka College.

Students who visit Keuka College by March 1, 2027, will receive a $500 Visit Grant toward tuition each year they attend, renewable for up to four years. It’s Keuka's way of thanking students for visiting their lakeside campus..

WHAT’S NEW? New 2+2 articulation agreements
From summer 2025 to summer 2026 Upstate developed several new 2+2 articulation agreements.

Tompkins Cortland Community College’s Health Science, AS to Upstate’s Radiography, Radiation Therapy (BS), Ultrasound (BS) and Respiratory Therapy bachelor’s degree programs.

SUNY Broome for their Health Sciences, AS degree into our Radiography, Radiation Therapy (BS), Ultrasound (BS) and Respiratory Therapy bachelor’s degree programs.

Students interested in Upstate’s Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Biotechnology, Radiography, Radiation Therapy (BS), Ultrasound (BS) or Respiratory Therapy bachelor’s degree programs can take the prerequisites at SUNY Polytechnic Institute (Utica) as part of their biology major. The freshman and sophomore years are spent at SUNY Poly, and if they’re admitted to Upstate, the students will enroll with us for their junior and senior years.

Important Application Dates and Details
Doctor of Physical Therapy 3+3 and 4+3 Early Assurance applications are due FEBRUARY 1. Reminders:
- Applicants must have 8 hours of shadowing a Physical Therapist by the application deadline.
- The Upstate DPT Early Assurance application is separate than the application to the undergraduate colleges. Our application may be found here.
- Upstate can’t receive high school transcripts nor first marking period grades via SCOIR or Naviance but we can accept them via e-mail (apply@upstate.edu) from the School Counseling staff.
- Seniors eligible for free or reduced lunch can have the application fee waived.

SCHOLARSHIP REMINDER
SUNY Upstate is pleased to offer the Respiratory Therapy Campus Visit Scholarship. Prospective students who attend an on-campus Respiratory Therapy information session or open house and later matriculate into the Respiratory Therapy program will receive a scholarship of up to $2,500.

St. Bonaventure University Admissions and Scholarship Updates

Every admitted student is automatically considered for a merit scholarship, with awards now ranging from $22,000 to $30,000 per year — up to $120,000 over four years.

Scholarships are awarded through a holistic review of each student’s application, considering academic performance, achievements, experiences, and overall potential — not just a single number.

Presidential Scholarship – $30,000/yr ($120,000/4 yrs)
Friars Scholarship – $28,000/yr ($112,000/4 yrs)
Provost Scholarship – $25,000/yr ($100,000/4 yrs)
Achievement Scholarship – $22,000/yr ($88,000/4 yrs)
And merit scholarships are only part of the picture. 99% of St. Bonaventure students receive financial aid, and students may also qualify for additional federal, state, and need-based assistance.

Binghamton University - Upcoming College Planning Workshop

As part of the University's 80th anniversary celebration and inauguration programming for President Anne D'Alleva, this event will give local high school students practical support as they begin planning for college.

Attendees will enjoy a complimentary breakfast, hear from guest speakers, and participate in workshops designed to help them prepare for the college application process, no matter where they plan to apply. Topics will include financial aid, building a college list, writing the college essay, and more.


SAT School Day at Waverly - Sign Ups Reminder

Registration Deadline: Friday, September 18th

The SAT exam (Scholastic Aptitude Test) is going to be given at Waverly High School on Thursday, October 22nd. The exam will begin at 8:00 a.m. and will take approximately 3 hours to complete. The exam is on a first come first serve basis as we have a limited number of exams.

The fee for the SAT exam is $60. Students can pay by cash or check. If you are paying by check, it can be made payable to "The Waverly Central School District."

The SAT is a standardized test used by many colleges and universities in the United States—including those that are test optional. It’s used for admissions, financial aid, placement, and other purposes. The primary benefit of taking the SAT is that it gives colleges a standardized measure of your academic abilities. With those scores, most colleges and universities can compare students from different schools and backgrounds on a level field. While the SAT isn’t the only factor that colleges consider in the admissions process, it’s a valuable tool that can demonstrate your academic abilities and improve your chances of being admitted to your desired college or university. It’s a more objective measure than extracurricular activities, teacher recommendations, or college application essays.

Although some four-year colleges don’t require an admission test score as part of your application, the test strengthens your college application nearly everywhere. Most U.S. colleges and universities accept the SAT. If you’re not sure which college you want to attend, it’s a good idea to take the test. You can decide at a later time whether or not to submit your scores with your application.

Remember that an average test score is just that ─ an average. Don't be afraid to apply to a college that seems right for you even if its average score is higher or lower than yours. Talk to your school counselor about whether or not you should submit your scores.

Some colleges and educational organizations award scholarship money to students based in part on SAT scores.

By opting in to the Student Search Service when you register for the weekend SAT, you can receive free information from colleges and scholarship programs. This can help you to discover a good match. Depending on your school, district, or state, if you take the SAT in school on a school day you can opt-into the Connections(TM) feature of the free Big Future School mobile app that also allows you to hear from colleges that might be a good match.

The PSAT/NMSQT (short for Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) is an opportunity for students to practice for the SAT. You can take the PSAT a total of three times in high school but only once per year. Most students take the test their Junior year, with some taking it as a Sophomore as well.

PSAT scores are designed to predict your SAT scores and gauge your college readiness. By taking the PSAT, you will learn which areas you should focus on when studying for the SAT and will be better equipped to score well on the SAT.

The PSAT is also the qualifying test for a National Merit Scholarship. Juniors who take the test must score in the top 1% to move on as semifinalists for National Merit Scholarships. 2026 SUNY Free Application Weeks

The State University of New York (SUNY) is hosting Free Application Weeks from October 19th to November 2nd, allowing students to apply to up to 5 SUNY schools with no application fee. This initiative aims to make higher education more accessible and affordable for students. According to a post, students can apply through the SUNY application or the Common App.

The SUNY Free Application Week is a great opportunity for students to explore various SUNY schools without incurring application fees. During this period, students can submit their applications, but supplemental materials like transcripts and letters of recommendation can be submitted after the free application week.

Fee Waiver Limit: Students can apply to up to 5 SUNY campuses with no application fee during this window.

How to Apply: You can submit your applications for free through either the Apply to SUNY Portal or the Common App.

No Code Needed: When using the direct SUNY system, fees for up to five eligible choices are automatically waived on
the payment page. If using the Common App, select "Yes" when prompted about the SUNY free application offer

SUNY will be hosting a College Fair for students and their families on Monday, October 5, at Onondaga Community College.

Students will have the chance to meet with representatives from over 45 SUNY campuses across New York State. They can also attend engaging presentations to explore opportunities at SUNY and financial aid.

As we get ready to welcome our students back to Waverly High School tomorrow, Wednesday, September 9, we wanted to share a few important reminders and information to help everyone start the 2026–2027 school year off on the right foot.

Schedules
Please have students check their SchoolTool account tonight for the most up-to-date schedule, as some schedules have changed since they were mailed home.
If a student is unable to access SchoolTool, printed copies of schedules will be available at the main entrance tomorrow morning.
All students should report directly to their first-period class. Instruction will begin promptly at 7:50 AM.

Schedule Questions or Concerns
If students have a question or concern about their schedule, they should still report to their first-period class and email their school counselor.
Students should not report to the Main Office or School Counseling Office for schedule changes. Please remain in class, send your counselor an email, and counselors will respond as soon as they are able.

Cell Phones
The cell phone policy from last school year remains in effect. Cell phones and other personal electronic devices are not permitted to be out or used during the school day. We appreciate everyone's cooperation as we continue to maintain a distraction-free learning environment.

Backpacks
Students may bring backpacks into school in the morning, but backpacks must be placed in lockers and may not be carried in the hallways during the school day. Students may retrieve their backpacks when they are leaving school at the end of the day.

Student Devices
Students who turned in their district-issued iPad at the end of last school year will receive their device during first period.
If your district-issued laptop or iPad was not turned in at the end of the school year or over the summer, please make sure you bring it to school tomorrow fully charged. Students who already have a district-issued device will not receive an additional device.

We are excited to welcome everyone back and look forward to a great start to the 2026–2027 school year. Thank you to our students and families for helping us begin the year ready to learn and ready to make it a great one.
