For the 2026–27 school year, the FAFSA form will be available to complete on October 1, 2025. The federal deadline to submit your application is June 30, 2026. Remember to also check for deadlines set by your state and the colleges you are applying to, as they may be different.
Key Dates for 2026–27 Aid
October 1, 2025: The FAFSA form becomes available for the 2026–27 academic year.
June 30, 2026: The federal deadline to submit the FAFSA for the 2026–27 school year.
Important Considerations
State and College Deadlines: States and individual colleges often have their own earlier deadlines for financial aid. You will need to check with your state's student aid agency and the financial aid office at each school you are applying to.
Online Application: The fastest and easiest way to apply for federal student aid is by completing the FAFSA form online at studentaid.gov.
FAFSA Form vs. School Year: To qualify for federal student aid for the 2026–27 academic year (which runs from July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2027), you must use the 2026–27 FAFSA form.
FAFSA Website: https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa
FSA ID: Your StudentAid.gov account username and password combination, sometimes called your FSA ID, is a set of log-in credentials that you create in order to gain access to the U.S. Department of Education’s online systems. Your account credentials can also serve as your legal signature when completing electronic documents.
You’ll need your Social Security number (SSN) (if applicable) and your own email address to create an account.
All Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) contributors must create their own account to access and complete their portion of the FAFSA® form.
FSA ID website: https://studentaid.gov/help-center/answers/article/fsa-id.
FAFSA Initiative:
Last spring Governor Kathy Hochul announced that part of the FY 24-25 budget includes a plan to require school districts to ensure every high school senior completes the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or sign a waiver. This is being done as an attempt to decrease the $200 million in federal aid that is not used.
Students that are NOT going to file the FAFSA must fill out the Waiver Form at https://5il.co/36wul and return it to the Main Office or Guidance Office.

What Is the PSAT?
The PSAT/NMSQT (short for Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) is an opportunity for students to practice for the SAT. You can take the PSAT a total of three times in high school but only once per year. Most students take the test their Junior year, with some taking it as a Sophomore as well.
PSAT scores are designed to predict your SAT scores and gauge your college readiness. By taking the PSAT, you will learn which areas you should focus on when studying for the SAT and will be better equipped to score well on the SAT.
The PSAT is also the qualifying test for a National Merit Scholarship. Juniors who take the test must score in the top 1% to move on as semifinalists for National Merit Scholarships. To learn more about the National Merit Scholarship, you may visit https://www.nationalmerit.org/s/1758/start.aspx?gid=2&pgid=61.

SAT School Day at Waverly - 10/15/2025 - Juniors and Seniors
Registration Deadline Extended to Friday, September 19th
The SAT exam (Scholastic Aptitude Test) is going to be given at Waverly High School on Wednesday, October 15th. The exam will begin at 8:00 a.m. and will take approximately 3 hours to complete. The exam is on a first come first serve basis as we have a limited number of exams.
The fee for the SAT exam is $68. Students can pay by cash or check. If you are paying by check, it can be made payable to "The Waverly Central School District."
The SAT is a standardized test used by many colleges and universities in the United States—including those that are test optional. It’s used for admissions, financial aid, placement, and other purposes. The primary benefit of taking the SAT is that it gives colleges a standardized measure of your academic abilities. With those scores, most colleges and universities can compare students from different schools and backgrounds on a level field. While the SAT isn’t the only factor that colleges consider in the admissions process, it’s a valuable tool that can demonstrate your academic abilities and improve your chances of being admitted to your desired college or university. It’s a more objective measure than extracurricular activities, teacher recommendations, or college application essays.
Although some four-year colleges don’t require an admission test score as part of your application, the test strengthens your college application nearly everywhere. Most U.S. colleges and universities accept the SAT. If you’re not sure which college you want to attend, it’s a good idea to take the test. You can decide at a later time whether or not to submit your scores with your application.
Remember that an average test score is just that ─ an average. Don't be afraid to apply to a college that seems right for you even if its average score is higher or lower than yours. Talk to your school counselor about whether or not you should submit your scores.
Some colleges and educational organizations award scholarship money to students based in part on SAT scores.
By opting in to the Student Search Service when you register for the weekend SAT, you can receive free information from colleges and scholarship programs. This can help you to discover a good match. Depending on your school, district, or state, if you take the SAT in school on a school day you can opt-into the Connections(TM) feature of the free Big Future School mobile app that also allows you to hear from colleges that might be a good match.
Students that are interested in taking the exam can sign up in the Guidance Department. The deadline to sign up is Friday, September 19th at 3:00 p.m.
To learn more about the SAT, you may visit https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/sat.
Please reach out to your Guidance Counselor for more information, with any questions and to sign up for the exam.
*Please be sure turn in your payment to Guidance as soon as possible.
