Chemung County/Casella Waste Management Systems Scholarship
Chemung County is pleased to announce the 2025 Chemung County/CaseIIa Waste Management Systems Scholarship, a scholarship program designed to assist college or college-bound students pursuing careers in environmental science, engineering, agriculture, waste management, or another environment related field.
The scholarship will provide $2,200 in 2025 toward the education costs of each awarded scholarship recipient. Based on review of application materials, scholarships will be awarded to candidates that best demonstrate eligibility, commitment to an environmental career path, and academic success. Additionally, eligible applicants must be residents of Chemung County and U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
The deadline to apply for this scholarship is April 28, 2025, and the County expects to notify scholarship recipients toward the end of May 2025. Harry J. Hoover Memorial Scholarship

The Harry J. Hoover Memorial has been established to fund a scholarship intended to be awarded annually to a graduating Waverly High School Senior planning to enroll or who is already enrolled in higher education with a major in criminal justice or related fields. Criminal justice is defined as, but not limited to law, legal studies, public safety, court services, law enforcement, fire science, forensic science, juvenile/family justice, protective service, corrections, parole, homeland security, environmental protection, or military service). The family encourages ALL majors to apply.
Basis for the award: The award is based on character, spirit, and leadership qualities in the school and in the community.
Who is eligible: Applicants must be graduating Seniors from Waverly High School in the year of application. The award is contingent upon acceptance at a duly accredited institution of higher education.

Interested in a career as a LPN? Guthrie has partnered with Northern Tier Career Center (NTCC) to sponsor tuition for select students in the yera-long LPN program. Limited spaces are available for the September 2025 class - applications are currenlty being accepted.
Below are a few details about the program.
Guthrie is sponsoring 25 seats in the Full Time LPN Class at Northern Tier Career Center in Towanda, PA
Classes are set to start Sept 2nd. Graduation will be in August 2026
Classes are held Monday – Friday 8am to approximately 4:30pm. This will be a mixture of classroom time and clinical rotations
If selected, we would place the student in a per diem care companion/care partner role in our float pool here in Sayre. They must work a minimum of 12 hours every 4 weeks while attending LPN School. There are always opportunities to pick up more hours if they choose to!
Guthrie will pay the Full tuition which is approx. $16,500.00! Students are responsible for extra items such as books or anything they may need for clinicals.
Deadline to apply is 3/21.
Interviews will be held virtually over the next few weeks. We would schedule a 15-minute interview where they would meet with a panel of 4 or 5 of our managers. If selected to move to the next round, they would send them to NTCC (Northern Tier Career Center) to take their TEAS exam.
If students are chosen for a seat in the class, they would be required to sign a contract to stay on with us as a Full Time LPN for 3 Years.

The Paul Quinn Girolamo Memorial has been established to fund a scholarship to be awarded annually to a graduating Waverly High School Senior planning to pursue higher education post-graduation. Paul ranked second in his class due to his ability to be both concise and consistent in regard to his academics. Paul strived to go above and beyond the expectations that had been placed upon him by himself, teachers and coaches doing so with the utmost perseverance, resilience and determination. Outside of the classroom, Paul was passionate about athletics and strived to be the best athlete he could be. Paul was a member of the Football, Basketball and Baseball teams. With this, Paul served as a positive role model to his former peers and was always putting others ahead of himself. Paul aspired to pursue a highly ranked college after he graduated high school.

Candor American Legion Auxiliary - Kate Whittemore Memorial Scholarship $500
This scholarship is open to all Tioga County high school seniors planning to further their education in agriculture, or construction trades.
Students must be entering college or a post high school program in fall 2025 to qualify for this year's Kate Whittemore Scholarship. All branches of agriculture, construction or trades are acceptable. Examples: farm management, fish and game, land preservation, surveying, and all constructions trades such as: electrical, iron, masonry, plumbing, etc.
Submit a 500 word essay on what you are majoring in and why.
The winner will be chosen by the Candor
American Legion Auxiliary Unit 907. Winners will be awarded their scholarship at a ceremony held at the Candor American Legion in June 2025.

SAT School Day - IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Students that are registered to take the SAT exam on 4/8/2025, please see the information as some of it is time sensitive.
*Digital Readiness Check
Students need to report to room 160 on Friday, 3/7 at 7:55 to complete the Digital Readiness Check.
Students will get familiar with the Bluebook™ testing application, confirm their personal information is correct, and verify that devices are ready for test day. During the digital readiness check, students will log in to Bluebook with temporary credentials (like they will on test day), complete exam setup, and try a test preview. These sessions can be completed in 30 minutes or less
*SAT School Day Test Day Information
Testing will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8th. Students that enter the exam after it has begun, will be unable to test.
Testing location is TBD.
Students will have 64 minutes to complete the Reading and Writing section and 70 minutes to complete the Math section for a total of 2 hours and 14 minutes of testing time. Each section is divided into two equal length modules, and there is a 10-minute break between the Reading and Writing section and the Math section.
Bluebook has a built-in calculator, so students are not required to bring a calculator. If students are going to bring a calculator, it must be approved.
There are only a few things you really need to bring on test day. Best sure to bring:
A pencil or pen.
Scratch paper will be provided—do not bring your own.
Optional: An approved calculator. There’s a graphing calculator built into the app, but you can bring your own if you'd like. Extra batteries for your calculator and backup equipment—you'll have to ask for permission to access them. They can’t be on your desk during the test.
Optional: A drink or snack to have during a 10 minute break.
Epinephrine auto-injectors (for example, EpiPens) are permitted without the need for accommodations. They must be placed in a clear bag and stored under your desk during testing. For policies on other medications and medical devices, contact Mrs. Fish in Guidance.
Students are prohibited from bringing the following items on test day (unless they have an approved accommodation):
Electronic equipment including phones, smartwatches, fitness trackers, wearable technology, cameras, recording or listening devices, or any other type of electronic or communication device except for their testing device used for the digital test and, if applicable, any assistive technology as part of an approved accommodation.
Books, reference guides, notes, compasses, rulers, protractors, dictionaries, highlighters, or colored pencils.
Papers of any kind.
Watches that beep, make a noise, or have an alarm.
Calculators that aren't acceptable.
Detachable privacy screens.
Reference guides, keyboard maps, or other typing instructions.
Ear plugs.
Brimmed caps, which may be worn into the testing room but must be removed and stored under the student's desk during testing.
Note: Hoodies have to be down during testing.

Katherine P. Kerrigan Scholarship -Community Foundation
This scholarship was established by Thomas W. Ward and Leslie Kipp, god-daughter of
Katherine, from the estate of Katherine P. Kerrigan. Katherine was a graduate of Barnard
College. She traveled all over Europe as a tutor for an American family, the Plankingtons, in the 1920s. She taught at a number of schools and veterans’ associations, both to children and adults, on a whole range of subjects. She returned to Waverly, NY when her father became ill. She was involved in community affairs and had great interest in public education and its improvement.

Donald E. “Coach” Ennis Memorial Scholarship - Community Foundation
Following his game plan, this scholarship was created in honor of Donald’s unwavering
dedication to education and athletics and will be awarded to a Waverly High School senior who participated in Waverly Wolverine Athletics. Donald, a proud native of Waverly, NY, graduated from Waverly High School before earning his master’s degree in education from Ithaca College. He began his teaching career in 1962 at Gorham, where he taught Physical Education at all levels, from elementary through high school. Among his many accomplishments, he established the football program at the Gorham School,
which he continued to develop at Marcus Whitman.
After a remarkable 36-year teaching career, Donald retired in 1998. His passion for Physical
Education, however, extended beyond retirement, as he became a dedicated Strength Coach, mentoring both students and faculty.
Beloved by countless students and athletes, Donald’s impact as a teacher, coach, and mentor is immeasurable. This scholarship honors his legacy by supporting the educational journey of a student who embodies his values of perseverance, teamwork, and dedication.
