Important Considerations

Last spring Governor Kathy Hochul announced that part of the FY 24-25 budget includes a plan to require school districts to ensure every high school senior completes the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or sign a waiver. This is being done as an attempt to decrease the $200 million in federal aid that is not used.
Students that are NOT going to file the FAFSA must fill out the Waiver Form at https://5il.co/36wul and return it to the Main Office or Guidance Office.
Starting in October, over 127 colleges and universities throughout New York State are waiving their application fees for NYS College Application Month! This means you can apply to multiple colleges without the burden of application fees, making it easier and more affordable for you to pursue your college goals!

On November 5th, 2025 from 4pm - 7pm the Corning Community College Criminal Justice program will be hosting its annual Criminal Justice career night. This will be an excellent opportunity for high school students interested in any area of criminal justice to speak to the professionals who do the job. The fair will cover areas like law enforcement, corrections, forensics, 911 dispatching, K-9, specialty law enforcement and mental health. We will have representatives from federal, state, county and local agencies.

Corning Community College will be hosting a Fall 2025 Open House event from 9am to noon on October 25, 2025. We encourage students and families to take this opportunity to explore the campus, interact with faculty and staff, and participate in hands-on demonstrations. There will be an opportunity to win a $250 visa card for prospective students who complete the scavenger hunt during their visit.
Updated Application Procedure and Information - SUNY Corning Community College will no longer have a local application. CCC will be processing all applications for matriculating students through the SUNY application. SUNY has agreed to allow students to apply for free to the community colleges and this is not limited to the SUNY free application week. During the SUNY free application week students will still be able to apply to up to 5 state-supported institutions and applications to community colleges will not count towards that limit.

SAT & PSAT Digital Readiness Check - 9/26 Updates
Students that are registered to take the PSAT or SAT exam in October received an email with detailed information regarding the exam that you are registered to take. In addition, there was information regarding the Digital Readiness Check that is being conducted on Friday, 9/26 in the Middle School Cafeteria.
Due to limited availability of devices that the IT Department can get provide at once, students will be split up by alpha on 9/26 to do the Digital Readiness Check.
*Students taking the PSAT or SAT exam and have a last name that ends in A-L, should report to the Middle School Cafeteria promptly at 8:00 a.m.
**Students taking the PSAT or SAT exam and have a last name that ends in M-Z, should report to the Middle School Cafeteria promptly at 8:30 a.m.
Students have been sent an invite in their school email that can be saved to their calendar as a reminder.
The Digital Readiness Check takes approximately 30 minutes. Students will return to their scheduled classes when finished.
Please see the Guidance Department with any questions. If students are unable to attend, please let Guidance know ASAP. The Digital Readiness Check is mandatory to take the PSAT and SAT exam.
