Students signed up to take the PSAT exam on Tuesday, October 22nd:
Testing will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 22nd. Students that enter the exam after it has begun, will be unable to test.
Testing will be in room 163 in the High School (Mr. Culver's room)
The exam will take approximately 2 1/2 hours. There is a Reading/Writing section and a Math section.
The Reading/Writing section is 64 minutes with 54 questions.
The Math section is 70 minutes with 44 questions. Bluebook has a built-in calculator, so students are not required to bring a calculator. If students are going to bring a calculator, it must be approved.
There are only a few things you really need to bring on test day. Best sure to bring:
Your fully charged school device. Students are not permitted to bring their own personal device. Your device should be able to hold a charge for 3–4 hours.
A pencil or pen.
Scratch paper will be provided—do not bring your own.
Optional: An approved calculator. There’s a graphing calculator built into the app, but you can bring your own if you'd like. Extra batteries for your calculator and backup equipment—you'll have to ask for permission to access them. They can’t be on your desk during the test.
Optional: A drink or snack to have during a 10 minute break.
Epinephrine auto-injectors (for example, EpiPens) are permitted without the need for accommodations. They must be placed in a clear bag and stored under your desk during testing. For policies on other medications and medical devices, contact Mrs. Fish in Guidance.
Students are prohibited from bringing the following items on test day (unless they have an approved accommodation):
Electronic equipment including phones, smartwatches, fitness trackers, wearable technology, cameras, recording or listening devices, or any other type of electronic or communication device except for their testing device used for the digital test and, if applicable, any assistive technology as part of an approved accommodation.
Books, reference guides, notes, compasses, rulers, protractors, dictionaries, highlighters, or colored pencils.
Papers of any kind.
Watches that beep, make a noise, or have an alarm.
Calculators that aren't acceptable.
Detachable privacy screens.
Reference guides, keyboard maps, or other typing instructions.
Ear plugs.
Brimmed caps, which may be worn into the testing room but must be removed and stored under the student's desk during testing.
Note: Hoodies have to be down during testing.
Ear buds.
Headphones (unless approved for a screenreader/text-to-speech).
Students and families should check their email for additional information and attachments. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Fish in the Guidance Office.

Elmira College To Offer Instant Admit Day to Waverly Seniors
When: Thursday, October 31st, 2024
Where: Wolverine Den
How to Sign Up: Students that are interested in attending Instant Admit Day for Elmira College, should sign up in the Guidance Department before Friday, October 25th, 2025.
What are Instant Admit Days? Instant decision day, or ID day as some schools call it, alleviates the pressure of applying to a college and waiting weeks — or even months — to hear back. During these events, which typically take place at high schools or local colleges, prospective students spend 15-20 minutes interviewing with an admissions officer from a particular institution. After the interview ends, the student is traditionally told whether or not the school will extend an offer of admission.
Frequently Asked Questions About Instant Decision Day:
Are instant admission decisions binding? Unlike early decision, instant admissions decisions are not binding for students. This means that even if a school offers you immediate admission, you can still apply to other schools and wait for their decisions. That said, some instant decision colleges may specify a deadline by which accepted students must let the school know whether or not they plan to attend.
Are instant decision days available for any major? Whether or not instant decision day offers access for all majors depends on the college. Some schools may only provide general admission to the school at large, requiring students to seek secondary admission to specific programs. This is especially common for particularly competitive programs, or those that require some type of performance (e.g., theater, music, etc.).
Will I receive financial aid information with my admission decision? It depends on the college. Some schools provide information about merit-based financial aid at the same time they offer an instant admissions offer, while others send this information at a later date. Students whose decision-making process relies heavily on financial aid offers should ask admissions officers about the institution’s policy early in the process so they know what to expect.
Seniors that are interested or have questions, should see their Guidance Counselor for more information.
