Attention Seniors, Juniors, and Parents! The Wolverine Center for Career Planning and the Waverly HS Guidance Department are pleased to be co-sponsoring our first "Fear Fest: College Recruiter Edition".
This Thursday (yes on Halloween), we are hosting a number of different recruiting organizations ranging from Colleges to Trade Unions to Military. Their entire focus is taking the fear out of the college search experience as well as paying for school.
In a great opportunity for students, Elmira College and SUNY BROOME will be there offering INSTANT ADMISSION decisions for Waverly students. Students will also have the ability to sign up to hear about two different topics in a smaller group setting. The first breakout is all about the FAFSA and will focus on financial aid from a number of different sources.
The second breakout is titled "things I wish I knew before leaving for college". The plan is for current HS students to hear from college staff and current college students about what they wish they knew before school, what people said was important, and what was REALLY important. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out the Wolverine Career Center or the Waverly Guidance Office.
This daytime event is open to all students, but focused on the Waverly Seniors. Halloween. Waverly High School. 10am - 1pm.

HEY SENIORS!!!
Next Thursday- Elmira College and SUNY Broome will both be on campus offering INSTANT ADMISSION !
Sign up today in the Guidance office if you are interested!
What are Instant Admit Days? Instant decision day, or ID day as some schools call it, alleviates the pressure of applying to a college and waiting weeks — or even months — to hear back. During these events, which typically take place at high schools or local colleges, prospective students spend 15-20 minutes interviewing with an admissions officer from a particular institution. After the interview ends, the student is traditionally told whether or not the school will extend an offer of admission.

PSAT/SAT Phishing Scam
Dear Parents/Guardians:
It has been brought to the State Education office's attention that parents and/or guardians of children who have recently taken an SAT or PSAT exam have been receiving scam calls requesting that the parent/guardian provide personal information, including a credit card number, to mail the test results.
Please be advised that any legitimate SAT test or prep. organization would not request payment or personal financial details over the phone for test results.
Please let this serve as a reminder that you should not share personal or financial information over the phone with unsolicited callers. If you receive such a call, hang up immediately. We are sending this reminder because parents and/or guardians of children who have recently taken an SAT or PSAT exam have been receiving scam calls requesting personal information, including a credit card number, to mail the test results.
Additional tips about how to protect yourself from SAT test-related scams can be found on the Better Business Bureau website and below:
Always be wary of unsolicited callers: If you receive a random call from someone asking for payment, research their organization before sharing any personal information.
Double check with your child: If someone claims they're calling because of a service your child requested, hang up and check with your child first.
Understand the College Board's practices: The College Board will never ask you for your bank or credit card information over the phone or through email.
Don't give your financial information to strangers: Never agree to pay a stranger with any form of payment for a purchase you didn't initiate.

Elmira College To Offer Instant Admit Day to Waverly Seniors
When: Thursday, October 31st, 2024
Where: Wolverine Den
How to Sign Up: Students that are interested in attending Instant Admit Day for Elmira College, should sign up in the Guidance Department before Friday, October 25th, 2025.
Frequently Asked Questions About Instant Decision Day:
Are instant admission decisions binding? Unlike early decision, instant admissions decisions are not binding for students. This means that even if a school offers you immediate admission, you can still apply to other schools and wait for their decisions. That said, some instant decision colleges may specify a deadline by which accepted students must let the school know whether or not they plan to attend.
Are instant decision days available for any major? Whether or not instant decision day offers access for all majors depends on the college. Some schools may only provide general admission to the school at large, requiring students to seek secondary admission to specific programs. This is especially common for particularly competitive programs, or those that require some type of performance (e.g., theater, music, etc.).
Will I receive financial aid information with my admission decision? It depends on the college. Some schools provide information about merit-based financial aid at the same time they offer an instant admissions offer, while others send this information at a later date. Students whose decision-making process relies heavily on financial aid offers should ask admissions officers about the institution’s policy early in the process so they know what to expect.
Seniors that are interested or have questions, should see their Guidance Counselor for more information.
